Key West's International Team Competition - now in its eighth year - always brings an added friendly, yet fiercely competitive dimension to race week. This year the competition will feature two boat teams comprised of Farr 40s and Melges 24s.
Team Italy triumphed last year, and with Vincenzo Onorato's Breeze once again the Big Boat anchor, they are sure to be one of the teams to beat. The strong European Farr 40 and Melges 24 presence at Key West fields 3 European Teams along with one each from France and Italy.
Canada is represented by the high energy boats named Dynamo (Eric Moog) and
Adrenaline (Wolf Lixfield). Both hail from Toronto, Ontario. The traditional three USA teams hail from the West, Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay.
"Each year the international team competition unites people who would not normally see each other on the race course," notes Race Chairman Peter Craig. "What was loosely modeled after the Admiral's Cup in Cowes, England has become a Key West tradition.
This year, presenting sponsor Nautica adds prestige to the award and high quality timepieces to the
winners."
