Volvo Inshore Championships
SERIES INFORMATION

INVITED CLASSES – PHRF (ratings – 60 to 174 as defined by PHRF of So. California using locally adjusted ratings), J/120, J/105, Schock 35, Melges 24, Farr 40, and 1D35. Other classes may apply.

Eligibility - MARINE PROFESSIONALS will not be allowed to steer boats for which they or their immediate family members are not principle owners, except for the ONE-DESIGN classes where individual class rules will prevail. A MARINE PROFESSIONAL is defined as a sailor whose primary income is derived from working in the racing sailing marine industry. There are no additional MIR related rules. All PHRF boats must have a valid rating. One-design skippers shall be in good standing with their respective class association.

Rules - Racing Rules of Sailing 1997-2000, the prescriptions of USSA; PHRF Category III safety requirements; this notice; applicable one-design rules and the sailing instructions of each individual regatta shall govern the series.

ENTRIES - A boat is automatically entered in the Volvo Inshore Championships when they enter any of the three regattas. HOWEVER, EACH INDIVIDUAL REGATTA MUST BE ENTERED SEPARATELY! Please contact each individual regatta host directly to register for each individual event (see regatta contact list above).

Sailing Instructions/Course Charts – Each regatta will provide its own Sailing Instructions and Course Charts to the competitors.

Guest Docking - Each individual regatta will coordinate its own guest docking.

Scoring – The combined scores of the three regattas (based on regatta results, not on individual race scores) will be added together for the “Volvo Inshore Championship” scores.

All three regattas’ results will be scored.

Ties will be broken as follows:

a) The yacht having the most series first places, 2nd places and so on until all places have been exhausted;
b) If a tie still exists, the yacht with the better finish in the last regatta of the series will be the winner of the tie.

The overall winner of the Volvo Inshore Championships will have their name engraved on the “Volvo Trophy” (which will be displayed at their yacht club for one year) as well as receiving a take home trophy.

Please remember that you are automatically entered in the Volvo Inshore Championships when you enter any of the three regattas. HOWEVER, YOU MUST ENTER EACH INDIVIDUAL REGATTA SEPARATELY TO RACE IN THAT REGATTA!

Volvo

Volvo Cars of North America has been swept away by the sailing winds of Southern California. The people who enjoy the freedom associated with sailing, are the same people who will appreciate the precision engineering and safe performance of our sporty class of automobiles, the Volvo S80 and C70.

The Volvo Inshore Championships complements our efforts with the Volvo Around-the-World Race (formerly known as the Whitbread Race). “The type of person who races sailboats demands the same attributes in an automobile – a technically advanced machine that is safe and fun to maneuver,” said Keith Cook, Volvo’s Southern California Market Area General Manager. “No other sport illustrates Volvo’s precision approach to manufacturing cars like sailing. Volvo is proud to be a part of the Volvo Inshore Championships and to be able to gain exposure and awareness for our exciting new Volvo model line up among like-minded individuals."
