Schedule of Events  (prior to the start of Boatscape.com/North Sails Race Week):

 

Wednesday, June 21:

 

3:00pm to 8:00pm – Sail Measuring / Stamping and Crew Weigh-in (Seaport Marina Hotel)

Thursday, June 22: 

 

 8:30 am     Check-in opens  (Seaport Marina Hotel).    Bow Numbers and other information will be given out at this time.

 9:00  am  -    MANDATORY SKIPPER'S MEETING   (Seaport Marina Hotel)

11:30 am -     Race #1 followed by Race #2 and #3

 5:00 pm  -     After Race Party (Poolside)  

 6:30 pm  -     Olson 30 Class Dinner and Meeting (Poolside)  

 

Friday, June 23: 

 

11:30 am  -    Race #4 followed by Race #5

4:00 pm  -    Race #6 will start in conjunction with Race Week fleets.  See Sailing Instructions for starting order of the fleets.

 

 

The balance of the schedule follows the Race Week schedule.

 

All boats must be in the water by the start of racing and may not come out of the water until completing the regatta without the written approval of the event or race committee chairman.     

 


Eligibility:

 

The regatta is open to all Olson 30 Class yachts as defined by the Olson 30 Class Association. Participants must meet all ownership, class membership, boat and sail measurement requirements, and must have paid all event fees within their deadlines before becoming official competitors.

 

Inspections

 

1)         Sails –

 

Only sails without a previous nationals stamp must be measured.  However, all sails must be declared and stamped prior to the regatta.  All sails that are to be used in the Nationals, must be measured, declared and stamped by Wednesday, June 21st at 8:00pm. 

 

It is strongly recommended that all sails be measured and stamped prior to arriving in Long Beach for the Nationals.  Pre-regatta sail measurement will be held in San Francisco Bay,  Seattle WA  and  Newport CA.  Please contact:

There will be a "last chance to measure and stamp sails opportunity" at the regatta headquarters (Seaport Marina Hotel) on Wednesday, June 21st from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Check in the hotel lobby for specific location (either at an "Olson 30 table" or see directional signeage).

2)         Crew Weigh-in -

 

All Olson 30 nationals skippers and crews must be weighed in and meet the weight limit requirements by Wednesday, June 21st at 8:00pm.   Weigh-ins are being conducted by the Olson 30 Nationals organizing committee at the regatta headquarters on Wednesday, June 21st from 3:00pm to 8:00pm.  Check in the hotel lobby for specific location (either at an "Olson 30 table" or see directional signeage).

 

Crew substitution will be allowed, but total class weight restrictions will apply at all times. Substitutes must be declared and weighed in by the Nationals Weighing Chairman – Aaron Feves, 562-989-6715.

 

3)         Safety and class equipment inspections -

 

Safety and class equipment inspections will be conducted as boats arrive.

Please be aware that there are recent changes to the rules on keel and

spinnaker pole measurements. If you have had any substantive work done to

your keel (other than minor repairs), please request a measurement by the

class measurer (Todd Downey 805-890-6058). Measurement certificates from

local measurers will be accepted, certifying that a keel meets class rules.

Bottom Cleaning

There shall be no breathing apparatus allowed for the purpose of cleaning boat

bottoms during the regatta.

 

Prizes -

Trophies will be awarded to the first five finishers overall, and to the first five finishers who are "Owner Driven". "Owner Drivers" must declare this status prior to the regatta.

 

LOGISTICS

 

Launching at ABYC

 

Launching is as indicated in the Launchingsection of the Race Week web page,  with the following additions:

                                        

The  ABYC Summer Office Hours are:  Tuesday – Sunday  9am to 5pm.  The club phone number is (562) 434-9955 – the club managers name is Gary Marshall.  Should you be planning to arrive when the club is closed, please contact Bruce Golison at:    bruce@golison.com  or at (714) 379-4884.

 

There will be no Olson 30 Nationals launching at ABYC on Wednesday, June 21 between 3:30 pm and 8:30 pm.

 

If you are racing at Long Beach Race Week prior to the nationals, please park your trailer and boat in the lot across the street from ABYC on Sunday afternoon and make sure you get a parking pass from the ABYC office.  Follow the same instructions as described in the Launching section of the Race Week web page.

 

All boats must be in the water by the start of racing on Thursday, June 22 and shall stay in the water until the conclusion of racing unless written approval by the event or race committee chairman has been granted.

 

Docking

 

For all non ABYC member Olson 30’s, please dock your boat at the specified  “Olson 30 Nationals’ docking area” in the marina near the Seaport Marina Hotel as shown on the Docking Map (Gangways 13-16 ) located in the Docking Instructions section on the Race Week web page.

 

Hoisting Out

 

On Sunday June 25th - ALL NON ABYC MEMBER OLSON 30’S  who are hauling out of the water and taking your masts down, SHALL do so at the “US Sailing Center” located at  5489 E. Ocean Blvd.  The Sailing Center is located approximately 1 mile north of ABYC.   There will be a $30 charge to haul out, payable at haul out by cash or by check made payable to the “US Sailing Center”.

 

To get to the Sailing Center by water, turn left at ABYC when entering the harbor and proceed up the bay to the Sailing Center which will be the second small marina past ABYC on your left.  By car, the Sailing Center is located just north of where Ocean Blvd widens (on your right as you are leaving ABYC).

 

Social

 

Thursday, June 22 - Fleet Dinner & Meeting -      

There will be an Olson 30 Nationals BBQ Dinner and Fleet Meeting on Thursday after racing.  The BBQ Dinner and meeting will take place at the Seaport Marina Hotel’s pool area.  The will be a no-host bar available.    More information to follow.
