Trailer Boat Entrants @ ABYC

LAUNCHING & CAR PARKING INFO

This letter is to explain your launching, docking, trailer storage and car parking at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club.

Special notes:

Melges 24’s - Both hoists at ABYC are rated for Melges 24 launching and hauling out – go to the hoist that is least crowded!

Santana 20’s - Use the large hoist for launching and hauling out of the water (the close hoist from the clubhouse).

LOGISTICS:

Arriving on Thursday or Friday - Bring your boat to Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, 7201 E. Ocean Blvd., LB.   ABYC’s phone number is (562) 434-9955.

I.            TRAILER PARKING   (DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION, THERE WILL BE AN ALTERNATE TRAILER PARKING LOT)

DIRCTIONS TO THE ALTERNATE TRAILER PARKING LOT:  Once your boat is off it’s trailer, please drive your trailer out of ABYC, turning right and drive west on Ocean Blvd.  The FIRST large public parking lot on your left will be in about 1 mile.  Turn left into this parking lot (there is a stop sign at the intersection and tennis courts on your right)

If you arrive before 5:00pm on Thursday, or any time on Friday, get a parking pass from the office and tape it onto the front of your trailer for the weekend  (BE SURE TO WRITE ALL OF THE DAYS YOU NEED TRAILER PARKING ON THE FORM).

If you arrive after 5:00pm on a particular day, you will need to pay the city $4 parking charge (at the corner of the parking lot)  for that night.  The next day during normal office hours, please get a trailer-parking pass from the office and tape it onto the front of your trailer  (BE SURE TO WRITE ALL OF THE DAYS YOU NEED TRAILER PARKING ON THE FORM).

II.        CAR PARKING

Please remember that car parking inside the ABYC grounds is for members only EXCEPT TO LOAD AND UNLOAD YOUR BOAT.  After you are through unloading, please park outside the yard.

Parking in the lot adjacent to the harbor entrance will be free if you pick up a “parking slip” from either the ABYC office or the gate person.  THERE ARE THREE IMPORTANT PARKING ITEMS TO AVOID GETTING A TICKET:  1)  get a new parking pass each day,  2) be sure to write your car license number, in ink, on it each day,  3) do not park in any “red designated parking spaces”.

Once this lot is full, then you will need to park on the street.

III.            Washing off your boats bottom - Please have everything ready to wash off the bottom of your boat before you get to the hoist. If there are people waiting to get into the water while you are on the hoist, please limit your time washing your boat’s bottom to no more than 5 minutes.

IV.              DOCKING

There is general race week docking in the marina near the hotel (see “Docking”).

For Melges 24’s, Santana 20’s, Olson 30’s and other ABYC member boats, which have launched at ABYC, docking is either in the ABYC basin or if you prefer to be closer to the race headquarters, you may dock your boat in the marina docking area near LBYC & the Seaport Marina Hotel.

F-Boat Tri’s will have their own group docking area in the Marina near the race headquarters (gangways 27-29 – across the channel from Long Beach YC  -  see “Docking” for map).

V.            HAULOUT – Sunday afternoon

After racing, boats come back to ABYC .

Melges 24’s can use either hoist and Santana 20’s are to use the large hoist – the one to your left as you sail into the basin.  There will be someone there to help coordinate the haulouts.  Once your boat is out of the water, take it to the wash down area and then please unrig your boat on the street.

When you return for Sunday's post race festivities at the Seaport Marina Hotel, please park your vehicle & trailer in the marina parking lot across the street from the hotel.

            Thank you.
