There are usually ongoing road construction activities and lane closures on US 1 south of Florida City (Homestead).

Motorists are encouraged to call 511 or to check www.511southflorida.com before travelling to get real-time traffic and lane closure information.

SELF TRAILERING

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)

Premiere Racing will be in regular contact with the Florida Department of Transportation and local agencies. We will post relevant information and updates as we learn about activities that might impact boats coming to Key West in December or January.

Individuals should contact the FDOT permit office (see below) directly regarding current travel/permit status for their particular transit times and dates as the situation is subject to change on short notice. Please be advised of the following permit requirements and be sure to make your arrangements as soon as reasonably possible.      

All information is  subject to FDOT and police confirmation

Trailer basics:

 -  8'6" and under do not require a permit

 -  over 8'6" wide a load permit is required

 -  10' - 12' also require a certified escort

 -  over 12' and up to 16' wide require a law enforcement escort

 -  from the front of the truck bumper to the rear of the trailer, the maximum length is 65' and this measurement must include any overhangs such as a mast.

Note: Blanket Permits are not valid through the Keys for boats over 10’ wide. Would need to apply with FDOT for an individual trip permit

Races are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. daily. Courses are set over an 8-mile stretch of the Atlantic Ocean just off Key West’s shore and inside the continental United States’ only living coral barrier reef.  

To view the action, fans can book seats on spectator boats ranging from excursion catamarans to historic tall ships. A walk along the waterfront at the Historic Seaport, or a visit to one of the kiosks is where people will find the current offerings. Prime land-based viewing spots include Key West’s Atlantic-front restaurants, resorts and beaches. The roof top of the Crowne Plaza, La Concha on Duval Street is on example of a very popular viewing spot.
