“I fully expect the IRC modified TP52s to be one of the headline classes in Key West next January. The response we have had thus far from 52 owners and program managers suggests a 8-10 boat class is very possible.”

                                                                                   Peter Craig, Race Chairman

South Florida Marinas Information Page

Dockage: With the IRC modified TP52s drawing in excess of 3 meters, some of the Key West Marinas are out of play. The Westin Marina definitely has enough water and routinely berths the larger race boats. There is potential at the Historic Seaport Marina and Conch Harbor Marina – Premiere Racing is looking into securing a few slips for 52s at these facilities. Premiere Racing also manages the Truman Waterfront Property immediately adjacent to the Westin and closest to the race course. While this is not a marina with all the standard amenities, there is berthing available at the sea wall and it is a logical venue to keep containers and storage trailers if you have difficulty finding space in old town.

Updated Planning Information from Crackerboy Boatworks (pdf) - September 30, 2010

We will post TP52 dockage updates as they become available.

TP52 racing in Key West is not a new phenomena We have had between 1 and 8 entrants since 2003. As recently as 2008 we had 6 IRC modified 52s racing in our IRC1 class and these past 2 years have featured 4 boats,  resulting in some terrific “level racing” within the larger IRC class. Premiere Racing recognized the top 52 each day with a trophy and the 1st and 2nd place finishers received series awards.

At the suggestion of Rob Weiland, the current TP52 Class Secretary, we started a promotional campaign earlier this year to attract more 52s to the 2011 edition of race week and I am very pleased to report that the response has been very encouraging.  I am confident that we will be offering a dedicated start for the 52s at next year’s regatta. We have been circulating a Key West TP52 (IRC Modified) promotional package that helps tell the story about what we are trying to accomplish.

If you know of any TP52 programs that are considering racing with us next January in Key West, I ask that you email us with that information so that we can touch base to confirm and then post on this web page so that fellow competitors can know well in advance how the class is shaping up. As we all know, the prospects of a competitive class will only help in attracting other boats.

I’ve always enjoyed doing the Florida circuit, and to me that means a regatta in Key West and a regatta in Miami. I like the concept behind combining the two regattas. It’s good for the boats to have that as an objective.”

John Kilroy, TP52 Samba Pa Ti

“We made somewhat of a last-minute decision to attend this regatta so I feel very fortunate to be able to pull this caliber of talent together…We are sailing really well and having a blast.”

            John Bertrand; TP52 Windquest skipper & two-time U.S. Olympian

Today was wonderful, simply wonderful. Great breeze, warm weather, flat water…what a gorgeous day to go sailing.”

Colm Barrington, TP52 Flash Glove

“It came right down to the wire...It was incredibly close.  It’s been a great week of sailing.

Eamon Conneely, TP52 Patches
