"IRC racing has been a grand prix part of Key West Race Week since 2006. We're confident that 2011 will see great competition with strong programs competing for the IRC Midwinter championship. The improving economy, our new expense savings and straightforward logistics initiatives should all help boost the numbers."

                                                                     Peter Craig, Race Chairman

Logistics / Dockage

Please be sure to check out the event logistics page for answers to your logistics questions.

Dockage: The most convenient and least expensive Old Town Marina ($3.50/foot) is the Historic Seaport Marina. There are other marinas listed on the marinas page. The Truman Waterfront Property, managed by Premiere Racing as a temporary marina during race week is another option and can be used for support boats, tenders and trailer storage.

Staging-Mast In-Launch-Haul-Mast Out:  There are numerous options available in Key West and on Stock Island (see the Key West logistics page). A new event mobile marina operation (Coffin Marine) was in play at Truman Waterfront Property last year and received very favorable reviews from boat owners and boat captains. Their rates were 10% lower than what S&S Mobile Marina charged in 2009.

Trucking through the Keys: Please see the Key West logistics page for guidance on trucking restrictions.

We are asking the Key West Chamber of Commerce to lobby the Florida DOT to provide relief on trucking and escort restrictions. More to follow later this spring…   For details and questions: the Florida Department of Transportation numbers and links are on our logistics page.

Key West 2011 has been designated the IRC Midwinter Championship. There will be a special Midwinter trophy awarded to the overall IRC winner on Friday at the final awards presentation.

We plan to communicate with individual boat owners who have attended Key West Race Week in in the past. One of the most effective tools for building participation is when owners make their intentions known.

As we all know, good competition begets more entries! If you have Key West on your racing calendar for 2011 or are even giving it serious consideration at this point, please notify Premiere Racing so we can update the all-important “Entry Plans” section.

“I always enjoy coming to Key West because this is one of the best organized regattas in the world. Peter Craig and his team do a tremendous job,” Laidlaw said. “The wind is very reliable over the course of the week and the fleet is usually very competitive.”

Irvine Laidlaw, Wally 82 Highland Fling, Monaco

Having competed in Key West with Cool Breeze 11 times, Nahon has seen the regatta change over the years—for the better.  "From our perspective, we're seeing more and more high-end, focused teams," he says. "It's always been a great regatta, always very challenging. The weather's great, and you won't find better racing anywhere."

Paul Nahon, Mastman for Mills 43 Cool Breeze

“This was the perfect Key West. We had terrific weather, wonderful conditions, fantastic race management and tremendous competition. Hats off to Peter Craig and his entire team for giving us sailors another great regatta.”

            Dan Meyers; Farr 60 Numbers

“On behalf on the ‘Moneypenny Racing Team’ I would like to thank you and your team for a great job last week.  Your event is “First Class”.  We had a great time and cannot wait to come back and see you next year.”

Ken Keefe; Star World Champion / Swan 601 Moneypenny

“It’s fantastic to win in Key West. It’s always great conditions and superb racing.”

Andrew Fisher, Owner Swan 42 Bandit

"The IRC classes truly brought together some of the top sailing minds in the world. People like Russell Coutts, Dee Smith and Kenny Read, just to name a few, really elevated the sailing level of the IRC boats here. The overall talent level made for awesome starts, tight mark roundings and close finishes. The crew work as a whole was outstanding. No lead was safe and no deficit was too great to overcome.”

Bruce Golison; Division 2 Principal Race Officer
