MARINAS -- DOCK SPACE -- SLIPS

Updated Dec 31, 2009

IMPORTANT INFORMATION  - The Historic Seaport Marina has developed a timeline and guidelines that will promote better communication regarding race week dockage applications and their status. The City owned Historic Seaport Marina is a highly desirable location and this new policy is designed to maximize the availability of slips for race week participants. The further objectives of this formal policy are to allow for timely processing of applications, communicate the status of wait-listed boats, and set a clear policy for deposits and refunds. Returning boats have the opportunity to secure their reservations early.

The timeline is a guideline (pdf) which when implemented should help improve the reservation process over past years. We ask for your cooperation with the HSPM dock staff as they transition into these new policies and procedures. Returning boats should note the August 30 application deadline in order to lock in their space early for the coming year.

Boat owners are responsible for arranging their own dockage and we encourage you to reserve early. If you are racing in a one design class, we recommend that you communicate with your class or a Key West campaigner who understands the Key West logistical challenges.

Like most destination locations on the eastern seaboard of the US, transient dock space in Key West is in high demand. We are working with the local marinas and the City of Key West to expand the base of transient slips and encourage them to accept slip reservations in a more timely fashion.

For those boat owners who wish to compete in Key West, you can be assured that there will be a place to moor your race boat. The private marinas don't always accept slip reservations in as timely a fashion as we would like given the other special events that precede race week. This is unfortunate, but please be advised that an inability to secure a slip reservation early in no way reflects on the availability of the slips later in the autumn or early winter.

Additionally, there is a fall back option. Premiere Racing will again manage the Truman Waterfront Property (TWP) during race week. This is a viable alternative for mooring race boats should a slip not come available at one of the private marinas. It provides inner seawall space, limited float space and ramp dry sailing. It should be noted that there is only 18 inches of tide in Key West. The TWP also serves as the event's mobile marina staging and crane operations site.
