PHRF National Championship - First, Second and Third place winners will received  beautiful Chelsea Clocks!

This year marks 109 years of fine clock making at Chelsea Clock.  During this period, more than 1,000,000 clocks have been crafted by master clock makers in Chelsea, Massachusetts.  The American clock tradition is unique to only two companies who make their own movements:  Chelsea for their Ship’s Bell movements and Herscheda for Grandfather clock movements.  Chelsea has one fundamental philosophy.  Each clock must represent quality and value.  Over the past century, the Chelsea name has become synonymous with classic American design, value and enduring quality.

PHRF Rules and Regulations for Acura Key West 2007 - VI 4

PHRF Crew Weight Limitation

For all PHRF entries, boats will be rated within the following Base Crew Weight Limitations. Crew weigh-ins are not required for PHRF entries, but PHRF Crew Weight Limitations may be subject to protest. Boats shall sail with the same crew in all races, unless crew change is approved by the Race Chairman. Any request for changes in crew or crew numbers must be submitted to the Race Office in writing prior to the race in which the change is to take place. In addition, boats may carry up to two additional crewmembers above their designated crew weight limitation provided they accept a handicap 'penalty' as prescribed below. Entrants intending to carry additional crewmembers must so indicate on their PHRF handicap application. The PHRF handicap will be adjusted accordingly and the adjusted handicap will stand for the series.

      Up to            Base Weight   Approximate

LOA (ft)        Limit (lbs)       Crew Number

      25.00             900                5

      27.00             1,080             6

      30.00             1,260             7

      32.00             1,440             8

      34.00             1,620             9

      37.00             1,800             10

      40.00             1,980             11

      43.00             2,160             12

      45.00             2,340             13

      50.00             2,520             14

53+   Additional 180 pounds (approximately 1 crew) for each 3 feet of LOA over 50 feet

A boat's LOA is to be rounded to the nearest foot. For example, a 25.49 foot boat is rounded to 25 feet LOA and is allowed a base crew weight of 900 pounds. A 25.5 foot boat is rounded to 26 feet LOA and is allowed a base crew weight of 1,080 pounds.

Rating adjustment for each additional 180 pounds or part thereof

(based on rounded length as described above):

24.00-36.00'      3 sec/mile

37.00-49.00'      2 sec/mile

50.00+             1 sec/mile

(No more than 360 extra pounds of crew weight (approximately 2 additional crew) may be carried)

Dear Sailor,

We hope that you have January’s Acura Key West 2007 on your racing calendar. If you are familiar with the regatta know that it draws top tier programs from across the country for some of the best handicap racing in the U.S. Professional race management, top-tier competition, Key West’s excellent sailing conditions and unique shore side activities and ambience make for a memorable week.

PHRF© Handicap racing has always been a significant part of “Key West Race Week”. As you may have heard by now, Acura Key West 2007 will host the Official 2007 PHRF© National Championship. This is a very exciting development and one that we believe will bring added attention and limelight to PHRF© racing.

Premiere Racing is working out the details and scoring criteria with the able assistance and support of US Sailing’s PHRF© Chairman Paul Ansfield, and Vice Chairman Bruce Bingman. (Bruce is also the Chairman of our special event PHRF© Consortium.)

Information and requirements specific to the National Championship will be posted on the event web site - www.Premiere-Racing.com. The Notice and Conditions of Race, and all PHRF© specific documents and forms are all available now through our web site.

Details on prize categories and scoring will be posted as they are finalized. Acknowledging the many different challenges related to scoring with PHRF© boats racing in different classes on different divisions, we intend to include both quantitative and qualitative criteria in the final determination of the 2007 National Champion.

I hope that you will all help get the word out and encourage participation by boats from your PHRF© organization and local area.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, would like to receive more materials and information, or wish to share your thoughts about how we can make this a resounding success for PHRF©.

Thank you in advance for your support and interest.

Sincerely,

Peter S. Craig

Event Director and Race Chairman

Acura Key West 2007
